Before & After: A Blush Tropical Hallway

For my latest project, my goal was to turn a dark hallway into a light and bright space. A hallway should not be ignored or forgotten, so this time, for one of my favourite before & after posts, I am revealing our hallway.

It was the darkest room in our home, with only one small window, and no other source of natural light, topped up with dark beige walls and a light fitting that did not really work for the space. We have been here for over a year but with so many other rooms taking priority, we finally only just got round to giving the hallway some TLC.

here is how it looked before (the not so glam photos of when we started decorating it):

The hallway before, it was dark and too beige.

The floor had already been done, but it was time to work on everything else.

the inspiration

I wanted the Palm Leaf Garden Wallpaper in Blush next to white walls, with some scandi-boho accents and plants. I decided to pair the Blush wallpaper with the hexagonal gold mirror and some black accents, as this is a family space and I needed it to be as practical and easy-to-maintain as possible. This is the moodboard for the hallway.

the reveal

For those scared by wallpaper, fear no more. I have hang the wallpaper myself! I thought all the angles of the stairwell (some curved and some straight) would be a nightmare, but it was as easy as any other wallpaper hanging I have done before, with the addition of using a ladder for the too-high-to-reach corners. so as long as you have all your tools ready and at hand, it should be an easy job!

The Mr did the painting and then followed with the wallpaper. For this project I also painted a shelf which was made to measure for the space, and added a touch of charm (read: paint!) to the step stool by the front door. Here is the finished hallway...

I used Ikea shelf brackets with a made-to-size painted shelf, and painted part of the legs of an Ikea stool, topped with a House Doctor cushion.

I love how the wallpaper flows through the wall, with its almost feather-like effect. The Palm Leaf Garden Wallpaper in Blush makes way for our family gallery wall.

The Family wall sticker which I have applied to a frame instead of directly of the wall, as I wanted the black lines to frame it and make it stand out in our gallery wall.

I made spaces for keys and letters. No more posts piling up everywhere as now everything has it's own place. There is a shoe cupboard just around the corner too so they are out of sight and in a clutter-free space.

Painting the legs of the step-stool has made it fit into the space perfectly whilst making it look unique.

I still want to paint the banister and skirting boards in a light grey colour (One day... Life is busy with a newborn and a toddler at the moment!) but I am impressed at how much the hallway changed already. We will also eventually be getting a new front door, I'll post updates on Instagram when we do!
